This is a street from the modern period of Mokpo, which looks like a scene from a movie with its checkerboard path leading toward the port and its last century buildings.
When you enter a narrow alley between Yeongsan-ro and the Yudal-dong intersection, walking down the street where the past and the present coexist together, you will see the Modern Alley Guesthouse built in the hanok style.
When you open the outside door, the first thing you will see is the front yard which provides a friendly atmosphere.
Both the floor where you can sit to enjoy reading and the eave that protects you from the scorching sun are pleasing to the eye.
Under the quiet stone wall, there's a collection of pots of various sizes that are gathered together and filled with flowers.
Upon entering the house, the first thing you'll see is the living room with its exposed beams and rafters on the high ceiling, and a door with decorative window paper underneath,
and the subtle scent of wood will make you feel the beauty of a hanok.
Modern Alley first opened in 2019.
The owner's idea was that hanoks suit the historic street has transformed this place into a place where travelers want to stay.
This space consists of two bedrooms, a floor and a courtyard, as well as a living room.
The bedroom and bathroom remain warm even in the middle of winter by utilizing the ondol (Korean floor heating system), a unique characteristic of hanoks.
In the spring or fall, you can enjoy a cup of tea in the small front yard, and you can also enjoy beer with the lights illuminating this place in the evening.
If you come to Modern Alley, you can have an elegant stay in the middle of a street that lets you experience Mokpo's modern history.
We hope that you will experience the rustic feel of our beautiful hanok and have an enjoyable and memorable time.
