Estacion 1913, a space filled with dreams and happiness
      Director Um Tae-sik

The gentle breeze and smell of the sea. In the distance, you can hear the sound of the waves along with the sound of ships' sirens.
If you look around, you can see old signboards that give off a retro feel as well as low buildings. This is the sight of the original city center of Mokpo, something especially seen in the surrounding scenery where Estacion 1913 is located.

Estacion 1913, which opened in October 2019, is a restaurant that specializes in Iberico shoulder loin, pork belly, and lamb ribs and operates as a guesthouse.
The name means train station (estación) in Spanish, and 1913 stands for Mokpo Station, which opened in 1913.
The name contains the hope of the owner (CEO Bang Eun-hee) who wants to make her lodge the first departure point for a train leaving for Iberia, the final destination point in Europe, in the future.

Director Uhm Tae-sik, who is in charge of overall affairs here, is not originally from Mokpo.
After running a restaurant in Seoul for a long time, he put an end to his urban life and came to the quiet and peaceful original city center of Mokpo and runs a restaurant with CEO Bang Eun-hee.

“Mokpo, especially this original city center, is a really attractive place.
Mt. Yudalsan and the sea can be seen in a short 5 minute walk, and the skies are always clear.
It was a city that I just happened to visit, but now it has become my home.””

Before opening the store, Director Uhm Tae-sik traveled to Mokpo by chance with his wife.
This place, where he stayed for 2 days away from the hustle and bustle of Seoul, did not disappear from his mind even after he went back. After two or three weeks, he returned to Mokpo and decided to live there for a month.
After much consideration, he decided to settle down in Mokpo.
The place he found to do business was a famous bone soup restaurant in the original city center of Mokpo, and he remodeled it the way he wanted.

“When I first opened this restaurant here, people around me were curious why I chose this place not a busy street like Hadang.
They said I had to start in a place where a lot of people come and go as I didn't have any connection and didn't know this city very well. But I wanted to start somewhere quiet and relaxing rather than in a noisy place.
I wanted travelers to Mokpo, as well as their families and couples, to enjoy food comfortably and make good memories at our restaurant.”

Director Uhm Tae-sik, who was confident in running a meat-based restaurant, did not change his opinion.
Business was important, but the kind of mindset he brought with him was more important.
He searched day and night for a source of quality meat, and the interior of the space was directed towards the customers who would come visit. He and his wife grill the meat themselves and the guests taste it.
A properly cooked piece of meat can be eaten with wasabi or wrapped in gariic leaves.
When you taste the meat's unique greasiness, you can wash it down with some wine or beer. It has a luxurious taste that is liked by everyone.
The restaurant became a must-visit place in Mokpo as word spread due to their hard work, and now customers from other areas also visit regularly.

The guesthouse has fewer guests than before due to COVID-19, but they are dreaming of taking another leap forward by acquiring the Korea Tourism Quality Certification.
In the space of 4 rooms, you can have a good night's sleep with high-quality beds and bedding.
In the living room, works of various artists, including Fernando Botero, are displayed, and in the kitchen, a microwave, pot, and induction stove are installed for cooking simple meals.
You can go up to the roof to enjoy the scenery, and even play a board game to relieve your boredom. The surroundings are quiet, so travelers can spend the day comfortably.

“The guesthouse is only for the travellers. It is a place for those who are looking for a relaxing atmosphere and a place to rest comfortably.
I will never change this concept. I'm happy as long as the guests are satisfied and we like it.”

The smile never left the face of Director Um Tae-sik, who settled in Mokpo in search of dreams and happiness. It's because he's found the place he wants and he's making new connections with the guests who visit here.
It is important that the number of guests increase, but he wants each and every one of them to have a good time.
Spending time, meeting new people and communicating with them is simply blissful.

To continue this kind of moment even today, Director Uhm Tae-sik prepares food in an apron, just like yesterday.
He will have the same mindset tomorrow as well.
