‘Kkumbakkol’ that greets you with a signboard
The story of the signboard, the first impression given of the village hotel
There are many different ways to record your travels. As you take a walk, watch, or eat and drink from your favorite food & drinks, what remains is the memory.
There are many ways to make the trip more fun and happier.
Saying hello to a cat you come across by chance, a fried egg on the breakfast table offered at the lodge, and the temperature of the sun and wind touching your skin. If you can pay attention to a small but meaningful scene, your travel may be remembered as a beautiful story in the future.
Here are the signboards of the Kkumkkuneun Bada Kkolmog Village Hotel you will come across while traveling in Mokpo.
If you first look at the pictures, meanings, and motives contained in them, you might like them even more when you actually see them.
Estacion 1913
Let me introduce the signboard of Estacion 1913 which goes well with the modern building.
Don't you feel the heaviness and nostalgia of trains and rails as if it were taken from an old train station? Cute icons representing services on each floor make visitors turn on their smartphone cameras.
The design reflects sketches that the host family designed and drew together.

Woldang
The signboard frame of Woldang looks like an antefix attached to the end of a roof tile on the eaves side, or perhaps appears like a circular roof end tile.
In the blank space, icons and Chinese characters in the shape of a hanok are placed to give off a simple yet elegant look. They said that it was designed by the son of one of the hosts who works as a book designer in the city.
The identity of this place, as a hanok guesthouse and teahouse, is nicely communicated on the signboard.

Modern Alley
Between Yeongsan-ro and Yudal-dong intersection, where the past and the present coexist. The Modern Alley, located in a narrow alley, has a square white acrylic signboard installed on a pillar of bricks at the entrance of the alley for travelers who could easily miss it.
The Modern Alley typography is simply designed in the same way as the brown iron signboard installed next to the front door like a nameplate.
The neat and calm atmosphere tells the character of the lodge.

Cheukhu-dong 19 beonji
A round signboard that warms your heart Cheukhu-dong 19 beonji is written inside of it in a way that makes it look like a full moon
The host couple drew the draft by themselves to capture the character of the guesthouse, making it as impressive as the Starbucks coffee logo.
It expressed the desire to provide a comfortable and cozy environment for travelers, and drew a fork and spoon in the place of the number 19 to indicate that it is a hostel where breakfast is served every morning.

Haengbok-dong 1-ga
‘I think the address is correct, but where on earth is the guesthouse building?’ If you want to stay at Happy-dong 1-ga, it might be faster to first find ‘Gwangshin Hardware Store,' which has been on this street for a long time.
You will see a gold-colored signboard that simply says, “Happy-dong 1-ga,” between the shopping malls that have been operating for a long time like old chieftains of Mokpo, and next to the left doorway of the entrance to Gwangsin Hardware Store.
Before climbing the stairs leading to Happy-dong 1-ga, this signboard stimulates your curiosity as if it were a hint or key to many secrets.

Mukgoga
The meaning of ‘mukgoga’ is explained in the information that it is ‘a house built in 1930’s, in the shape of the Japanese house, which is the original framework of this building, and in the signboards placed side by side in the shape of a Giyeok (ㄱ).
The signboard here not only maintain the atmosphere of the lodge where the modern and contemporary times coexist, but it also goes well with the exterior style finishing which use roof tiles, wood, and stone as the main materials.
A simple wooden sign attached to each room also shows the sense of the host.

Magic Lamp
The magic lamp guesthouse almost didn't have to make any special signboard.
The wall adjacent to the front yard is decorated with a large painting of Aladdin and Princess Jasmine.
The signboard, completed with a lamp that looks like a place where the fantastical Genie is resting, a bold English name, and a yellow background that stands out without any frills was designed by the host.

Pung-gyeong Maru
Under the same name, Pung-gyeong Maru is operated as an unmanned cafe, live music pub, and guest house.
Whether you are passing by in a car or taking a walk, there is a large signboard designed with only letters without any frame to make it stand out.
The vertical signboard installed next to each entrance is in the same shape as the Cheongsachorong lights up in the evening and functions like a street lamp on Yudal-ro.

Ri-in Mokpo
Some of you may have already noticed? The signboard of Ri-in Mokpo was made using the works of Professor Kang Byung-in, one of Korea's famous calligraphers.
It was made as a horizontal signboard to match the point color of the guesthouse exterior and preserve the original feel of the calligraphy.
The signboard seems to show the will of the host to create a 'happy and benevolent village.'

38 Beon-ga
A signboard that has the shape of a guesthouse and a vertical signboard next to the main gate welcomes travelers.
By excluding decorative elements as much as possible, only the 'house' with the beautiful muntins and 'crescent moon' were drawn to complete the feel of accomodations and friendly banter.
Contrary to the simple, comfortable and signboard without any frills, each room is decorated in a luxurious style that doesn't play second fiddle to any hotel.

Shinhyeongdang
The signboard of Shinhyeongdang is installed on a picturesque exterior wall that looks like a piece of artwork and a signature.
As an artist who majored in art, the host of this place, which has various uses such as a gallery, cafe, and cultural space, completed the sigboard design by writing and drawing it himself.

Papacino
The signboard of Papacino, is designed with the feeling of a variation on roman type, looks like a typical and simple nameplate.
Black fonts were placed on a white rectangular cube, and this was fixed to an iron plate that had been separated from the wall a span away and hung down.
The scotch (*made as if it was cut into pieces and pasted without a background) acrylic attached to the upper wall of the door was done in a dark color so as not to collide with the pink wall, and indirect lighting creates a subtle atmosphere.
